Summer Update 2014

It is hard to believe that is July already.  Since our last post a few things have changed on the farm.  Last fall, we said good bye to the majority of our goat herd.  It was a hard decision but reality stated that goats are very time consuming and the  market was falling.  We did keep 3 does to keep our Llama Serg happy and 2 bucks which are for sale.  In March, we were completely surprised when a little buck was born.  He was quickly named our oops.  Then we had a second oops later in the spring.  Apparently, we had the buck pen build good enough to keep the boys in but not good enough to keep the girls out.  This latest arrival has been named oopsie Daisy.  We have no intentions of getting back into goats.  So, if you are in intereseted we have 3 wonderful boys who need to find new homes.

Calving season went well this spring and hopefully will continue later this fall when our heifers freshen.  Our herd is slowly turning black as we have been using Black Angus bulls the last 3 years.   The funny story about calving this year is we recieved proof that  the neighbours bull came visiting last summer when a red and white calf was born.  Since breeding with Black Angus bulls all our calves have been born black and white with possibly a little red under tone.  Needless to say the fences were checked and fixed and hopefully no more wondering bulls will come visiting.

Haying is going well.  We wish Mother Nature would cooperate just a little more, but then again we do need some rain for our soy beans.  This is our second year for growing soya beans.

Well, hope you are enjoying your summer.  Take care and check back.
